They are cute but also needy when they are young. Fursties must be fed every three hours. If they do not get fed, they screech. Very, very loudly.

Red fursties scream the loudest.

When we brought my furstie home, he was quiet and sweet. I was over the three moons of Boopoolaffia with my choice. I decided on a name for him right away.

‘I think I’ll call you Cuddles,’ I said as I held him tight.

Cuddles purred and snuggled up to me. I let him sleep on my pillow because he was so small and, being furry, he kept my head warm.

But over the next few months he grew. A lot. When he started taking up more room, I tried to move Cuddles to the end of my bed.

Cuddles would not have it. He loved my pillow and if I went to move him he would screech.

Soon I gave up and let him sleep where he wanted. I did not mind sleeping down the other end of the bed. It was still cosy, although a little cramped.

‘I think you have spoiled him,’ Mum said when she saw Cuddles sleeping on my pillow.

‘He’s fine,’ I said from the other end of the bed.

Cuddles kept growing. He became so big he took up the entire bed. I had to sleep on the floor.
